Circular Peace Cushions, Hand-painted Silk by DurgaMata, produced in partnership with Eric Ho, carry positive energy, using Raw Silk linen
This is a very exciting new project. I will be making two sizes / styles, in hand-painted raw silk filled with a special filling which is very soft and light. About the filling – from the website where i have ordered it. Micro cluster fibre is a luxury fibre made up of tiny ball clusters, softer than other types of fibres and has a higher filling power. An excellent all round filling for soft toys, pillows, cushions and pet beds. Fully washable and perfect for uses where an anti-allergy filling is required in replacement of down. I will keep these prices until i have enough data about the costs of production to discuss with eric ho who is partnering with me on this project. About the colours. I paint using the steam-fix dyes which give vivid colours. The colour choice listed is for the main colour, but i will always use at least 3 colours and often more. The power of colour and the purity and focus of my meditative painting combine to give these cushions a strong positive vibration which will help to reduce stress and lift your consciousness as you meditate. About my meditation cushions. I have been following eric ho’s work for over a year now and get to his events whenever i can. This year i started testing one of the h akademy products -‘launch your business from home’ and joined what eric calls the’inner circle’ because i totally believe in his approach to life – not just his tremendous skill in business which comes from his own wide experience of business success. For me everything begins with our inner life and spiritual progress. I have been going to all kinds of inspiring events linked to entrepreneurship for several years now and find all the great speakers are inspiring and their advice is great – but with eric i feel that he is special. He shares my belief in the central importance of spirituality and his philosophy is health, wealth and oneness. The spiritual life is all about oneness and love. Most business models are all about competition but eric is seeking a way to integrate a spiritual approach so that he can support everyone and enable us all to help each other to succeed. Now, if you will indulge me, i will tell you a story – which explains how i have just started working with eric, to create a range of meditation- and peace- cushions. About two weeks ago i was at the superpower live event. This is a three day event – absolutely brilliant. It really is transformational and empowering. It takes you’up a level’ in all aspects of life and business. And if you would like to go to the next superpowerlive event which will be in september do let me know and i’ll forward to you the details. To get back to the meditation cushions. On sunday 20th may i came to the superpower live event. I was not able to attend for the full three days, due to a bereavement in my family but at least i was able to catch up a bit on sunday. It was so great to be among friends and feel their love and support at that time as well as tune back in to the focus and energy of eric’s entrepreneurship training. On this occasion i had a special mission. I’m a fan of richard branson and love it when he says’if you get an opportunity, say yes. Then work out how to do it afterwards. So of course i said yes. Since getting this commission i had discussed the design with the client. His name was mr peacock and he wanted a dress in peacock colours. He gave me an idea of the style he wanted and the measurements. I first researched patterns, sent him several to chose from. He had now made his choice. I had ordered and received samples of several types and weights of silk but i was not sure which was most suitable. So i wanted to ask some friends at superpower live which silk sample they thought would be best for this dress commission. On sunday 20th, i had driven straight to the event from outside london so i needed to go home to collect the samples of silk. The only opportunity was at lunchtime. I didn’t want to take my car as it would be difficult to find a parking spot near the event afterwards, so i went home by public transport. It was not a long way but there were delays due to sunday engineering work and by the time i returned the afternoon session had already started. The lights were low as a video was showing so i slid into the only free seat near the back. When the lights came up again i found i was sitting next to a lady who was wearing a dress which had a design based on feathers – and particulalry peacock feathers. In view of my commission i was delighted and asked her if i could take some photos of the dress at breaktime. She agreed and when we took the photos i told her about the exciting commission and mentioned that it is going well but the biggest problem i was having was to find a suitable dressmaker. I asked her if she happened to know of any dressmakers. This is the kind of magic or’divine grace’ that can occur when you are’in the flow’ as eric would put it. I had absolutely no doubt that our meeting was’meant to be’ and i was speaking to the exact person who i should team up with in making this silk dress. Neither of us was sitting where we had been before lunch – and the dress she was wearing – which inspired me to speak to her – was not a favourite. She had never worn it before. The only complication was that she lives in derby – but fortunately i do have a car so that was only a minor problem. The following week was intense. I ordered the selected silk and cut a rough pattern from a sheet, sending the actual pattern to my dressmaker – all on monday. On tuesday i received the silk i had ordered and used my rough pattern pieces to cut the silk – knowing that each piece was larger than the required size. On wednesday i started painting. I stretched each piece and painted it separately, salting each piece of fabric when i finished painting. The salt takes time to work, as the dyes are drying. I only had one frame large enough to stretch these pieces and each one took several hours. I made 3 fronts and 3 backs before i was happy with the colours and patterns of one front and back which would work well together. Then there were all the smaller pieces for sleeves and facings etc to paint. This took all wednesday and all wednesday night, as when the silk is painted, salted and dried, the process is not complete. The painted silk has to be steamed for three hours to fix the dyes. And to fit in all these pieces of silk i had to do this 3 hour steaming twice. On thursday morning, when i had arranged to drive to derby so my dressmaker could get to work on the sewing, i phoned her to ask if we could move the process to friday as i was really tired. I did not want to take on a long drive after a night with no sleep. The 3 hour drive to derby on friday took 7 hours due to bank holiday traffic and a series of motorway diversions due to accidents. It was great to arrive at last and my dressmaker was very welcoming. We reached her studio at a little after 6pm and immeditately began to work on the dress. We selected and checked all the pieces. Then i ironed each piece as she started laying them out with the actual pattern and cutting. Before long she was sitting at the sewing machine and working her magic. Anna works for a fashion designer part time and has her own business part time and she is a total expert when it comes to dressmaking. I always say that god is very clever i could never have found a better dressmaker – and because eric’s philosophy is health wealth and oneness, she felt as i did that our meeting was not a coincidence and we were’family. The dress was finished at just after midnight it was beautiful. It made my hair stand on end to see how well it had come out. The drive was quite smooth and i went straight to an event eric ho was holding for the inner circle that weekend. The previous sunday i had heard that on saturday eric had done something new. He had invited people who have a business to pitch to him – as he is one of the’dragons’ on the (vietnam) equivalent of dragons den. As far as i know, he has never taken this on role at a superpower live event and invited people to pitch to him before so everyone was talking about it. Aparently it was oversubscribed so he would be concluding these pitches on the following weekend. On that sunday at superpower live on 20th, i asked eric’s ceo if there was any possibility of adding my name to the list of people who would be pitching but she said no. It was already so oversubscribed. Eric wasn’t very happy about it running over to the next weekend. He would certainly not want any more people added to the list. Being cheeky by nature – which i think is an important quality if you want to succeed in entrepreneurship – i took the opportunity to ask eric a question at the end of the evening. I said that i had heard about the opportunity he had given attendees to pitch to him. And i heard it had been over subscribed, so he was carrying some people forward to pitch to him the following weekend. Eric agreed that this was so. I said my question was, can you add my name to the list and eric kindly said yes. So that was why it was so important to me to drive back from derby that saturday morning 26th may and be on time for the event. I had no idea when the pitching opportunity would be offered. And i needed to be early to be relaxed and ready. I had already gone over and over my pitch and worked out all the costings and finances with a toothcomb, but i was still really anxious. Eric shares many great quotes with us and one i like is that there is no such thing as luck. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Well, this was one amazing opportunity. I wanted to be as prepared as i could possibly be. At lunchtime i went to a stationary shop and bought some coloured pens and a packet of index cards – the kind you use for filing – in four different colours. I went through my planned pitch as i waited for my meal, writing the whole thing out in stages on the cards and reading them through. I had only 3 minutes for my pitch. And i needed to be absolutely tight in what i needed to include. I continued working on this while i ate my meal and after i had finished. I cut the text down into bullet points, doing my best to condense it, but it was still a 4 minute presentation. After 2 hours it was still not down to 3 minutes and i dared not spend any more time on this. I could at this very moment be missing the call. I was relieved when i returned to the event to find that as yet there had been no pitching. Later in the afternoon eric made it known that he had changed his mind. There simply was no time for the additional pitches. I was happy because at least i had gone through the process of preparation. It had helped me clarify my business needs. It was certainly time well spent. At the end of the event, as usual, we had questions and answers. I took my beautiful dress, in its plastic sleeve, and hid it under my chair. When all the other questions had been asked i took the mike and said to eric that i had just finished making my first silk dress. I appreciated that he had not had time to take any pitches but could i just show him the dress i was giving one of my meditative silk painting workshops on sunday – next day – and delivering the dress to the client who had commissioned it on monday – so i could not attend the event next day. This was the only opportunity i would have to show him and i’d really like him to see it. Eric is so kind to everyone – kindness is one of his strongest (and deeply spiritual) qualities – and he said yes. So i showed him the dress. Suddenly he said something very unexpected. He said,’ok, durgamata. You can pitch to me now. I was absolutely surprised and absolutely delighted. To cut a long story short he did not offer me the funds i requested. He was not interested in getting into the business of marketing silk scarves or dresses. His business expertise is not in that field. But he did joke that if i was making something that he could wear on his youtube videos he could promote my business that way. Unfortunately he did not look great in dresses – and he wasn’t even really into silk scarves. Of course everyone was laughing. Then suddenly eric looked thoughtful. He knows that i do all my silk-painting as a form of meditation, that my silk scarves are powerful as well as beautiful and carry the positive energy of my meditation. They are healing scarves, happiness scarves, high consciousness scarves – not just a pretty accessory. Eric asked if i could make anything related to meditation. That would be something he could mention and promote. I said i could make hand-painted silk meditation cushions. Make a meditation cushion and record all the costing carefully. If i like it i will put a link on my youtube. Ill get my team to create a landing page – and come into this business as a partner. I was absolutely blown away by this incredible turn of events and then later, delighted when eric then came and interviewed me about my silk-painting on his video. I will be painting raw-silk which is stronger and thicker than other types of silk and has a lovely rough texture. All my silk-painting is done as a form of meditation so the fabric carries a strong positive energy and peaceful vibration. The peace cushions are something i have not yet discussed in detail with eric. But they will be more like the silk scarves i make in that they will be soft and tactile. You can either rest your head on them – or hold them close and feel the peace. This is for times when life just seems to be a bit too much and you need the physical comfort and reassurance of something that carries a strong positive energy. It’s great at such times if you have a dear friend or your mother beside you, to give you a hug and hold you close. But when that is not possible, curling up with one of my hand-painted peace cushions, created as a form of meditation and rich in the pure energies of colour and light, can go some way to meeting that important emotional and spiritual need. If you are interested in this project and would like to see my cushions when they come into production (in about 10 days time) do leave me a message and i will add you to the growing list of friends and customers who have left kind comments following eric’s video. I tell you, he is a very special guy. What we as individuals and as a wider community in our poor, suffering world so desperately needs is the message and example that eric is offering. Everything begins with breath, with love, with oneness, with this moment and with the kindness and honesty that he champions in all areas of our lives, personal and business. Eric is the real macoy. His philosophy is grounded on genuine spiritual love, oneness, wisdom and self-giving while fully embracing and understanding the whole dynamic of business, finance and entrepreneurship. Thank you very much for your support and – if you have read all the way through this – thank you for taking such an interest in me and my meditative silk painting.
